Welcome to Tranquility Base
Tranquility Base is the site on the Moon where Neil Armstrong first walked on the Moon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the Lunar Module Eagle at Tranquility Base on July 20, 1969 at 10:17pm. Neil Armstrong walked on the Moon 6 hours later, early in the morning on July 21. Both Armstrong and Aldrin spent 2 hours and 31 minutes exploring the lunar surface before returning to the Eagle for rest. They left the Moon at 5:54pm on July 21, 1969. The name of this historic site (Tranquility Base) was determined by both Armstrong and Aldrin before their historic flight and only known by a few people before they landed.
Like Armstrong and Aldrin, I am using the name 'Tranquility Base' as the site for our class mission and activities about our Solar System. It will be our base of study and discovery as we learn about the Solar System and what lies beyond. I hope you find the same success of discovery and experience at the 6M Tranquility Base, as Armstrong and Aldrin found at theirs. Safe travels!
